Peter Simpson, Chief Executive, Anglian Water Group

 

Peter’s career in the water industry has covered eight countries across three continents, including Regional Director for Europe and South America based in the Czech Republic, and Senior VP (Operations) based in the USA.

He has been Chief Executive of Anglian Water Group since October 2013, and was previously MD of Anglian Water from January 2010, and Chief Operating Officer from 2004.

He was Chairman of Water UK from April 2012-October 2013, and is currently Vice-President of the Institute of Water.

Peter is a member of Cambridge University’s ‘Programme for Sustainability Leadership’ Climate Change Leaders Group.  This influences at a national, EU and global level to reduce carbon emissions, and to champion resource efficiency in water, energy and other natural resources.

In 2012, he was Chairman of Defra’s ‘Red Tape Challenge’ which put forward to government a number of key recommendations on the future regulation and operation of the water industry.

He is currently a member of Defra’s ‘High Level Group’ on the introduction of non-domestic competition into the water market in England.

Peter is also a champion of Business in the Community’s ‘Seeing is Believing Programme’ that targets business help and support to areas of deprivation across the UK.  He has recently established a project for young people in Cambridgeshire to improve employability and skills training.

Peter is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager, and a Chartered Environmentalist.  He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School.
